The Indigenous Futures Research Lab is a space for collaborative, community-engaged work grounded in Indigenous knowledge systems, narrative practices, and relationships to land. The lab brings together research, media production, and creative practice, with an emphasis on how Indigenous futures are carried forward through story, sound, and place.

What the Lab Does

The lab supports projects that move across disciplines and forms. This work includes media production, cultural knowledge projects, and collaborations with Native communities. Rather than separating research from practice, the lab brings these together through ongoing relationships and shared work.

Areas of Work

  • Short film and visual storytelling
  • Podcasting and sound-based projects
  • Map-based and spatial storytelling
  • Land-based research and fieldwork
  • Collaborative and community-engaged research

Approach

Work in the lab is grounded in relational accountability, care, and consent. Projects develop through collaboration and are shaped by the priorities and knowledge systems of the communities involved. The lab is not structured around extractive research, but around long-term relationships and shared responsibility.

Current and Developing Projects

Projects in the lab are ongoing and take different forms depending on context and collaboration. These include media-based work, research partnerships, and place-based projects that engage Indigenous histories, presence, and futurity.

Working Together

The lab works with students, collaborators, and community partners. If you are interested in collaboration or learning more about current work, please get in touch.
